KATHMANDU: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased the price of diesel and kerosene by a whopping Rs 14 per liter each, and petrol by Rs 5 per liter.
A meeting of the Board of Directors of NOC held late on Tuesday took a decision to this extent.
With the fresh hike in prices, petrol will retail at Rs 178 per liter, while diesel and kerosene will be available for Rs 167 per liter each in Kathmandu Valley and other major cities. The new prices will come into effect from Tuesday midnight.
The heavy rise in diesel prices is certain to make consumer goods expensive, while also increasing public transport fares.
The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and aviation turbine fuel, however, has been kept unchanged.
NOC has adopted an automatic pricing mechanism in which fuel prices are revised based on rates forwarded by India Oil Corporation.
