KATHMANDU: The Dhulikhel-Khawa section of the Araniko Highway remains incomplete even though it has already been two years since the contract for the four-kilometer section was awarded.
Division Road Office, Bhaktapur, awarded the contract to upgrade the section to Gauri-Parvati Nirman Sewa Pvt Ltd in March 2022. As per the contract, the work had to be completed within 22 months i.e. March, 2024. However, the contractor has achieved only 40% physical progress so far, according to the Division Road Office, Bhaktapur.
The road section is often disrupted due to mud, as the road expansion and upgrading work has not been completed on time. While the road becomes dusty in dry weather, it becomes muddy during the rainy season.
People in four districts – Kavre, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha and Ramechhap – have been affected by the poor condition of this road section. As Araniko Highway links the Nepal-China border town of Kodari, the poor condition of the road section is also causing troubles to traders.
