Dharan Mayor Sampang threatens journalist

ITAHARI: Dharan Mayor Harka Sampang has threatened journalists by posting a provocative message on Facebook targeting journalist Gopal Dahal from the Center for Investigative Journalism (CIJ).

Writing a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Sampang demanded that Dahal or a representative of the CIJ appear before him by 10 am on Thursday. “If you fail to appear, I will end your investigative journalism, or my name isn’t Harka Sampang!” he wrote on Facebook.

Dahal had published an investigative report on Sampang’s arbitrary governance style.

In an earlier social media post, Sampang also threatened the journalist, warning of severe consequences if he continued reporting unfavorably. “Janak Rishi also come to my office,” Sampang wrong, referring to Janak Rishi Rai, president of the Sunsari chapter of Federation of Nepalese Journalists.
