Dhakal for unanimous leadership in FNCCI

KATHMANDU: Chandra Prasad Dhakal, the Senior Vice President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), has launched an initiative for a unanimous leadership in the upcoming annual general meeting and elections scheduled for April 12 in Kathmandu.

Dhakal, who will be automatically elevated to the post of President after the AGM, held a discussion on Wednesday with three candidates for the post of Senior Vice President – Anjan Shrestha, Ram Chandra Sanghai, and Umesh Lal Shrestha.

The three candidates are contesting the elections by forming their separate panels.

“My opinion is that the FNCCI should be made a common platform for all industrialists,” Dhakal said. “That is why I am working to establish a tradition of electing the leadership on a unanimous basis.”

FNCCI chapters in all seven provinces have already elected new leadership, with most of them being selected unanimously.

“Unanimous selection of new leadership in the provinces has developed a good culture in the FNCCI,” Dhakal added.

Stating that the country’s economy and businesspeople are currently facing testing times, Dhakal said unity and consensus among the private sector would be of great importance in this situation. “The private sector will have a strong voice if we are united,” he added.

Dhakal said that all three candidates would get an opportunity if the existing term of three years is lowered to two years.
