KATHMANDU: Gandaki Province Assembly member of Nepal Samajbadi Party (NSP), Fanindra Devkota, has been denied entry into the province assembly.

Devkota told Himal Press that he was stopped in the lobby of the province assembly by the marshals on the instructions of Speaker Krishna Prasad Dhital.

Devkota, who was elected to the province assembly using the election symbol of CPN (Unified Socialist), had defied the Maoist Center’s whip to support the vote of confidence motion tabled by Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey. He was subsequently suspended by the Maoist Center for defying the party’s whip.

However, Devkota challenged the decision in the Supreme Court and managed to get the apex court’s interim order against his suspension. A copy of the court’s decision was registered in the province assembly secretariat on Wednesday.

Devkota had also met Chief Miniter Pandey and Speaker Dhital and informed them about the court’s decision.
