KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has sought the support of former general secretary Dr Shashank Koirala in the parliamentary party election.
“Dr Koirala reached Deuba’s residence at Baluatar on Tuesday to congratulate him for electoral victory. During the meeting, Deuba asked Koirala to support him in the election for the parliamentary party leader,” Dr Koirala’s secretary Bharat Tiwari.
In response, Dr Koirala told Deuba that he will discuss the matter, Tiwari added .
Deuba is looking to become prime minister for a record sixth time by winning the parliamentary party election. Dr Koirala has also been saying that he would stake a claim for the country’s executive head.
NC General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa campaigned for the November 20 election that he would contest the parliamentary party election in Nepali Congress. As per the Nepali Congress statute, only the parliamentary party leader can become the prime minister.
Another senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel said few days ago that he ticks all the boxes to become the prime minister.
