KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that false propaganda is being spread concerning his family’s property.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Deuba, who is currently in Singapore for treatment, requested everyone not to believe in the misinformation campaigns being conducted.
“I came to know through the media that an investigation has been initiated regarding alleged money laundering involving my family and me,” he wrote. “I would like to inform you all that we have been submitting all factual details of our property to the concerned authorities while holding public office according to law.
Deuba also claimed that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Act was enacted during his tenure as Home Minister in 1991, and the Corruption Prevention Act was enforced during his time as Prime Minister in 2002 in an effort to build a corruption-free society and ensure good governance and transparency.
“I have spent my entire life striving for the establishment of a democratic system of governance in Nepal. My belief in the rule of law, separation of powers, independent judiciary, transparency, and responsible state organs remains steadfast,” he wrote.
Deuba’s reaction came after the Kathmandu District Court issued arrest warrants against him and his spouse, former foreign minister Arzu Rana Deuba, for money laundering investigations.
