KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday held a discussion with Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to discuss formation in Koshi Province.
Four parties of the ruling coalition – Nepali Congress (NC), Maoist Center, CPN (Unified Socialist) and Janata Samajbai Party – had reached a consensus to form the government under the leadership of Indra Mangbo of Maoist Center. However, the politics in the province took a new turn after CPN-UML supported NC assembly member Kedar Karki, who is close to the anti-establishment faction led by Dr Shekhar Koirala, to form the government. Karki has submitted the support of 47 members – eight of NC and 39 of UML – at the Office of the Province Chief.
Deuba is now at his residence to hold the work performance committee meeting of his party to discuss the developing situation in Koshi Province.
All 47 members, who extended their support to Karki, have gathered at the Office of the Province Chief to press the latter to appoint Karki as the new chief minister.
