KATHMANDU: Deo Chandra Lal Karna has been appointed Officiating Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation appointed Karna to the post as per Article 19 of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Act, 1996.
The position had become vacant after the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the constitutional anti-graft body, filed a corruption case against Director General Pradip Adhikari at the Special Court over alleged irregularities in the construction of a heliport in Nalinchowk, Bhaktapur. Adhikari was automatically suspended following the filing of the charge sheet.
The CIAA has also filed a separate charge sheet against Adhikari over alleged irregularities in the construction of Pokhara International Airport in Kaski.
Karna is the senior-most among the three Class-12 officers at CAAN.
