Deliberation on School Education Bill has reached final stage: CNT

KATHMANDU: The School Education Bill, 2023, has reached the final stage of deliberation at the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives.

As the discussions near conclusion, the Confederation of Nepalese Teachers (CNT) has said that it is actively engaged in ensuring key concerns are reflected in the Bill.

CNT President Laxmi Kishor Subedi told Himal Press that he held meetings and discussions today with lawmakers from major parties in the House of Representatives. According to him, he met with Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire, former Education Minister and Maoist Centre lawmakers Devendra Poudel and UML lawmaker Leela Bokhim to discuss the Bill on Thursday. “There are several provisions in the bill that we are seriously concerned about,” said Subedi. “We have conveyed our views clearly to the key lawmakers.”

The CNT previously exerted pressure at various stages to incorporate its demands and recommendations into the Bill. It has particularly emphasised issues such as teacher management, job security, professional protection and formal recognition for early childhood development educators.

Meanwhile, members of the parliamentary committee have stated they are working to make the bill inclusive and balanced as per the CNT’s suggestions.
