POKHARA: Defending champions Sankata Club crashed out of the 23rd Aha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup 2024, suffering a 0-3 defeat against Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) at the Pokhara Stadium on Sunday.
TAC scored its first goal in the dying moments of the first half and netted two more in the second half to send the defending champions home. Midfielder Dinesh Henjan scored two goals for the departmental side, while Gillespye Jung Karki added his team’s third in the second half.
This is TAC’s 15th participation in Pokhara’s premier football tournament. Despite entering the final four times, the club is yet to lift the title.
TAC will face the winner of the fourth quarterfinal match between Nepal Police Club and ‘A’ Division League champions Church Boys Club in the semi-final, scheduled to be played on Tuesday. Three Star Club secured a spot in the final by defeating Bhutanese side Paro FC 2-0 on Saturday. Jawalakhel Youth Club will meet Manang Marshyangdi Club in the third quarterfinal match on Monday.
A total of 12 teams, including a team from Bhutan, are participating in the 23rd edition of the Aha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup.
The winner will receive a trophy and Rs 1.2 million, while the first runner-up will take home Rs 600,0000.
