‘Decision on parliamentary party leader only after meeting party leaders’

ITAHARI: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala Friday said he has not yet decided whether to contest in the election for the parliamentary leader of his party.

Talking to media persons in Biratnagar after his victory in the Morang-6 constituency, he said he would take a decision only after holding discussions with leaders close to him and other leaders of the party.

“There is no point in staking a claim right now. The final results have not come yet,” he said adding: “It will take some more time for the proportionate representation (PR) vote count. Only then I will discuss the matter with friends and take a decision.”

Koirala also said he would take a decision only after holding discussions with party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and other leaders close to him. “I will spend a few more days here (in Biratnagar). Then I will go to Kathmandu and discuss the matter with party leaders,” Koirala added.

NC General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, who is also from Shekhar’s camp, has already begun preparations to become the parliamentary party leader of NC. He has already received the support of another general secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma.
