Death toll from rain-induced disasters rises to 217

KATHMANDU: The recent floods, landslides and inundation caused by continuous rainfall last weekend resulted in 217 deaths. Twenty-eight people are still missing.

According to home ministry spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari, 143 people have been injured in the natural disaster. He also informed that all security agencies have been mobilized for search, rescue, and relief operations following the floods and landslides.

Spokesperson Tiwari said that emergency relief materials, including food, have been provided to those affected by the floods. Free medical treatment is being offered to the injured.

Tiwari claimed that the government had given high priority to search, rescue and relief efforts. He added that initiatives are underway to clear obstructed highways to resume transportation.
