Death toll from monsoon-induced disasters climb to 108 File Photo

KATHMANDU: Floods and landslides triggered by monsoon rains have resulted in 108 deaths as of Sunday. The impact has been felt nationwide, with some regions hit particularly hard.

According to Nepali Police headquarters, two lives were lost in the Kathmandu Valley which houses the federal capital. Among the provinces, Gandaki recorded the highest fatalities with 38 lives lost, followed by Lumbini (23), Koshi (19), Bagmati (9), Sudurpaschim (8), Madhesh (5), and Karnali (4).

A total of 199 people have been injured in different disaster incidents. Additionally, 53 people have been rescued, while six are missing.

According to the police, 182 houses have been waterlogged, while floods have damaged 203 houses, 75 animal sheds, 41 bridges, one school building, and two government office buildings.

Disaster incidents have displaced 3,552 people, while 516 livestock have been lost.
