Deadlock in Madhesh Province Assembly ends

JANAKPURDHAM:  The deadlock in the Madhes Provincial Assembly has ended after the Provincial Affairs Committee agreed to investigate the incident that occurred during the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Rajarshi Janak Agriculture University in Rajbiraj, Saptari, on January 22.

Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal (JSP Nepal) Chairperson Upendra Yadav had laid the foundation stone for the university. When cadres of Janamat Party protested the decision to have Yadav as the Chief Guest, police resorted to force and then education minister, Mahesh Prasad Yadav, was injured.

Janamat Party had been obstructing province assembly meetings, demanding a parliamentary probe into the incident.

During the provincial assembly meeting on Monday, Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal informed the meeting that the Provincial Affairs Committee has been assigned to investigate the incident.

The committee will also probe the vandalism that occurred in the province assembly on April 16 when Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav was seeking a vote of confidence for the fourth time. This consensus was reached among the parties.
