Daily turnover in Nepse falls below Rs 10 billion

KATHMANDU: Daily turnover in the stock market fell below the Rs 10 billion mark for the first time in 32 sessions as the Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) index logged a loss of 12.10 points, closing the last trading day of the week at 2,727.36 points on Thursday.

The Nepse index witnessed a loss of 90.73 points on Wednesday after gaining 134.26 points over the previous two trading sessions.

Daily turnover on the bourse has been steadily declining since August 15, when a record Rs 29.30 billion worth of shares were traded.

Share prices of 138 companies declined on the day, while 102 advanced, and four remained unchanged. Nepal Finance Ltd logged the highest turnover of the session, with shares worth Rs 405.09 million traded. Next were NLG Insurance Ltd and Goodwill Finance Ltd, with turnovers of Rs 342.21 million and Rs 299.67 million, respectively.

Among trading groups, only Microfinance and Trading sub-indices posted nominal gains. All other sub-indices ended the session in the red. The Investment sub-index registered the biggest loss of 1.36%, while the market heavyweight Banking sub-index posted a nominal loss of 0.69%.

A total of 20.15 million units of shares were traded on the bourse through 112,692 transactions on Thursday.
