KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who has made no public remark over the loss of lives and property during last week’s Gen Z protest, has instead pledged to build a grand new party headquarters.
This was his first public comment since the Gen Z protests of September 8 and 9.
Inspecting the Maoist Center party office in Koteshwar, Kathmandu, which was set on fire and badly damaged during the demonstrations, Dahal said on Tuesday that the party would rebuild a bigger and more impressive structure. “Yes, there has been damage. But what I want to say is that with the support of the entire party—both inside and outside the country—a grand building will be constructed,” he declared.
Although more than 70 died during the protest, Dahal offered neither condolences to their families nor tributes to the victims. He has also remained silent on the broader political fallout of the uprising.
Dahal told media persons that some meeting minutes, the library and a few computers from the office were spared. He expressed gratitude to the staff and cadres who helped save those materials.
