KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal reached Rome, Italy, on Sunday, leading a Nepali delegation to attend the United Nations Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment (UNFSS+2) scheduled on July 24-July, 2023.
Dahal is scheduled to address the official opening session of UNFSS+2 on Monday as the Chairperson of the LDC Group. He will also participate in the plenary sessions discussing school meals on Tuesday and Food System Transformation in Practice on Wednesday.
Nepal’s ambassador to Austria, Bharat Kumar Regmi, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy welcomed Dahal in Rome, as stated by Surya Kiran Sharma, the PM’s Press Coordinator.
Accompanying the Prime Minister are, the Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr Bedu Ram Bhusal; Member of the National Planning Commission Dr Jay Kant Raut, Dahal’s daughter and personal assistant Ganga Dahal and senior officials from the Government of Nepal.
Dahal is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with high-level dignitaries of the UN system, including the Director-General of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), and the President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), among others. He will also interact with the Nepali community in Italy by attending a program organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association, Italy.
The Nepali delegation will return to Kathmandu on July 28.
