KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Nepal Samajbadi Party (NSP) leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has apologized with supporters for leaving his electoral constituency in Gorkha-2 to CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
In a lengthy post on his social media page on Thursday, he also apologized to his voters in Gorkha-2.
“Since the November 2022 election, Dahal’s lust for power and his duplicitous character have been exposed. In return for the selfless support I extended to him, he has resorted to blatant lies and deception. He has gravely undermined the aspirations of the nation and people, and bartered the sacrifices made by hundreds and thousands of people during the People’s War to gain state power, and is not serious about concluding the remaining works of transitional justice,” Bhattarai said.
Bhattarai also mentioned that most of the people and his party cadres have acknowledged that he made a mistake by vacating his electoral seat for Dahal.
The NSP leader not only surrendered his electoral seat to Dahal but also campaigned for him in the election. However, the relationship between the two architects of the decade-long insurgency has deteriorated after Dahal assumed power following his victory in the Gorkha-2 election.
Asserting that national politics has once again fallen into the vicious cycle of power transfer after a major political revolution, Bhattarai made it clear that the erstwhile revolutionary leaders are rapidly deviating from their core values and ideals.
He stated that the hard-won federal democratic republic itself is on the verge of collapse, and the people’s aspirations for good governance and prosperity are facing severe setbacks. “In this context, I have chosen to advocate for clean, pro-people politics from the streets and party platforms, and caution those in power rather than being part of the parliament and government,” he added.
