KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed concern over the stalling of crucial bills, including the Federal Police Bill, in Parliament and its committees.
Speaking at the meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, he warned that the increasing tendency to remove such bills from the parliamentary agenda could undermine trust in the federal system itself.
“I had hoped to work with the government with some flexibility to build meaningful consensus,” he said. “It is unfortunate that a bill sent to Parliament after years of discussion in the committee is being withdrawn even after being placed on the agenda.”
Dahal said it was worrying that key bills, such as those related to the federal civil service, school education, citizenship amendment, and federal police, had reached Parliament after long effort and deliberation but still had not been enacted into law.
“Suspicions are growing that these bills might be put on the back burner,” he said. “If delays continue, it could give rise to a serious political crisis.”
