KATHMANDU: Leader of the main oppoistion, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has strongly condemned the government’s prolonged detention of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane.
Writing a post on his Facebook page on Monday, Dahal expressed serious concern over the government’s handling of Lamichhane’s case. “I condemn the authoritarian, undemocratic, inhumane, and vindictive actions taken by the government against RSP President Lamichhane, who was elected by elected by overwhelming public mandate and has not been convicted by the court,” Dahal said. “I strongly urge the government to put an end to such behavior.”
Lamichhane was arrested in Kathmandu on October 18 for an investigation into his alleged role in the misappropriation of cooperative deposits. He has been in the custody of the District Police Office, Kaski, since October 19.
While in custody, police have transferred Lamichhane to Rupandehi, Kathmandu and Chitwan to record his statements.
Lamichhane served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs in the cabinet led by Dahal.
