KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has challenged the government to bring the land of Shera Durbar in Nuwakot under state ownership.
Addressing a program in Jhapa on Monday, Dahal accused opponents of spreading false propaganda against the Maoist Center by linking the Shera Duarbar issue to individuals who left the party nearly 12–15 years ago.
Dahal was referring to a recommendation made by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police to confiscate 163 ropanis of the land of Shera Durbar from a private company and register it under the government’s name. CIB recently submitted its study report to the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, concluding that the land, which once belonged to the members of the former royal family, was unlawfully registered in the name of Bikesh Shrestha – a former personal secretary of Maoist Center Chairperson Dahal.
Historical records show Shera Darbar used to be the winter palace of Late King Prithvi Narayan Shah.
“If Shera Durbar’s land truly belongs to the state, reclaim it immediately. But do not resort to dishonest political tactics to mislead the public,” Dahal said.
