KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal has acknowledged that his party’s relationship with the people has weakened.

Speaking at a program in Dang on Friday, Dahal admitted that the party has weakened after it abandoned the agendas of the class and community for which it had waged the “people’s war”. He added that the party had resolved to move forward with the agenda of the same class and community.

“Our relationship with the people has somewhat weakened. We fought a revolution for a specific class and community, but their demands and issues have become somewhat weak,” Dahal said. “Now we need to rectify this. We must also increase meetings and connections with the families of martyrs, disappeared and wounded warriors.”

Dahal said the party needs to return to the community that was the basis of their people’s war. “We must now turn back to that same community. The Maoist Center is running a campaign to return to all classes and communities,” Dahal said. “It gives me satisfaction that I could declare the martyrs of the people’s war and people’s movement as national martyrs and published their list in the gazette.”
