Curfew imposed in Birgunj till 8 am on Tuesday

KATHMANDU: A curfew has been enforced in Birgunj till 8 am on Tuesday.

The local administration imposed the curfew from 6 pm on Monday after its prohibitory orders failed to take the situation under control.

Chief District Officer of Parsa, Bhola Dahal, said the curfew has been enforced within designated areas of Birgunj Metropolitan City—east of the Bypass Road, west of the Sirsiya Bridge, north of Power House Chowk, and south of Shankaracharya Gate.

According to the curfew order, security personnel have been authorized to take strict action against violators. Locals of Birgunj have been told not to step outside their homes except for essential purposes and to coordinate with nearby security personnel or call the emergency number 100 if movement is necessary.

Birgunj has remained tense since Sunday following protests against the vandalism of a mosque in Sakuwa Maran of Kamala Municipality–6 of Dhanusha.

Although Dhanusha police have arrested one of the accused, the protest has spilled over to Birgunj.
