CRJ-200 aircraft of Saurya Airlines crashes at TIA

KATHMANDU: A CRJ-200 aircraft of Saurya Airlines crashed minutes after taking off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning.

The aircraft with registration 9N-AME, bound for Pokahra for technical maintenance, crashed at the eastern side of Runway 20 (Bouddha end) while taking off from Runway 02 (Koteshwar end), according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

A CCTV grab being shared on social media shows the aircraft flying low and crashing at the eastern end of Runway 02 right after crossing the runway.

A total of 19 passengers including crew members were on board. Captain Manish Shakya has been rescued from the crash site and taken to KMC Teaching Hospital, Sinamangal, for treatment.
