KATHMANDU: Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has been denied a visa to travel to the US to participate in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.

Lamichhane said he had been denied a visa in a social media post on Wednesday. “And the US Embassy, Nepal did it again what they did back in 2019, they denied me a visa for the T20 World Cup happening in USA and West Indies,” Lamichhane wrote on his Facebook page.

The leg-spinner was suspended from all cricket activities on January 11, 2024 after the Kathmandu District Court convicted him of rape. He challenged the district court’s verdict at the higher court.

Patan High Court acquitted rape charges against Lamichhane on May 15. Following the court’s decision, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) lifted restriction imposed on Lamihhane from participating in all cricket activities.

Lamichhane had applied for a visa to travel to the US after CAN included him in Nepal’s squad.
