KATHMANDU: Kantipur Media Group Chairperson, Kailash Sirohiya, has claimed that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, filed a complaint against him to stop news related to his involvement in cooperative fraud and divert attention from the main issue.
Issuing a statement on Tuesday after the Dhanusha District Court issued an arrest warrant for him in a fake citizenship case, Sirohiya said: “Those officials, who abuse the power of the police administration to take personal revenge against a media house chairperson just for publishing news, should also say when will an investigation be launched against an individual, who got a decision of no prosecution from the Office of the Attorney General regarding his dual passport and then involved in political bargain to come into power?”
The district court issued the arrest order for Sirohiya after a complaint was filed accusing him of obtaining two citizenship certificates. Based on that complaint, the bench of District Judge Chitra Bahadur Gurung issued the arrest warrant. Sirohiya had previously claimed that he did not commit any wrongdoing.
“As a responsible citizen, I am ready to cooperate fully in any investigation conducted in accordance with the law. However, the Kantipur Media Group, of which I am the chairperson, will not be shaken in the slightest by any retaliation or intervention resulting from the abuse of state power,” he said in the statement.
