KATHMANDU: A complaint has been filed with the Judicial Council against the judges who acquitted former Nepali Congress lawmaker Mohammad Aftab Alam.

Advocate Yubaraj Safal registered the complaint, demanding an investigation and action against the two judges who issued the verdict, a source at the Judicial Commission said.

The Rautahat District Court had convicted Alam, his brother Mohammad Mahatab Alam and two others of orchestrating a deadly explosion and killing injured survivors by throwing them into a brick kiln in Rajpur of Rautahat in April 2008.

However, the Birgunj Bench of the Janakpur High Court overturned the district court verdict on Wednesday, ruling that the evidence presented was insufficient to uphold the convictions. High Court Judges Khushi Prasad Tharu and Arjun Maharjan issued the verdict.
