KATHMANDU: Chief of Army Staff Prabhu Ram Sharma has handed over the reins of the Nepal Army to Lieutenant General Ashok Raj Sigdel.
Sharma handed over the responsibility to Sigdel amid a ceremony organized at the Nepal Army headquarters on Thursday. Sharma is starting his customary home leave – one month ahead of his retirement – on Friday. He is completing his three-year term as the chief of the Nepal Army on September 9.
Sigdel will take charge as the Officiating Chief of Army Staff of Nepal Army from the same day. He will formally take charge as 45th CoAS of the Nepal Army on September 9.
Speaking on the occasion, CoAS Sharma expressed his happiness in being able to hand over the responsibilities to Lieutenant General Sigdel who he described as a successor with a good understanding of all levels and strata of the Nepali Army, in-depth knowledge of policies, rules and procedures, and possessing practical and professional capabilities.
Former Chiefs of Army Staff, the Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, and other senior army officers were present on the occasion.
CoAS Sharma also paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the Nepal Army Pavilion in Tundekhel.
