CNT urges teachers to boycott Class 12 exam duties

KATHMANDU: The Confederation of Nepali Teachers (CNT) has urged all headmasters, teachers, and school staff not to participate in duties related to the Class 12 examinations, including roles as center supervisors or invigilators. The examinations are scheduled to begin on Baisakh 11.

The ongoing protests are also likely to disrupt the new academic session beginning from Tuesday.

School teachers have been engaged in a capital-centric protest since April 2, demanding the immediate enactment of the School Education Act. The confederation has also called on school teachers to refrain from activities such as answer sheet evaluation, result publication related to the Secondary Education Examination (SEE).

The CNT has demanded that the School Education Act be passed immediately through one of three options: commencing the regular parliamentary session, convening a special session or issuing an ordinance. Stating that they have no new demands, the teachers have vowed not to return to classrooms until the Act is enacted.

Meanwhile, discussions on the School Education Bill are ongoing in the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee of the House of Representatives.

Nanumaya Parajuli, co-chair of the CNT and coordinator of its protest committee, reiterated that teachers will remain on the streets until the Act is passed. “We are continuing our street protests,” she said. “We will stop only when the Act is enacted.”
