KATHMANDU: Expressing dissatisfaction with the School Education Bill, the Confederation of Nepali Teachers (CNT) organized a sit-in at the CPN-UML headquarters in Chyasal, Lalitpur, on Thursday.
After the protest, the CNT submitted a memorandum to UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel.
According to the CNT, it started organizing sit-ins at the offices of political parties after past agreements reached with the government were not implemented.
Receiving the memorandum, General Secretary Pokharel claimed that the UML had facilitated the inclusion of teachers’ concerns in the Bill. He assured that the UML is committed to implementing past agreements with teachers and will push to incorporate issues left out of the House of Representatives during deliberations in the National Assembly.
CNT Vice Chairperson Nanu Maya Parajuli said they were compelled to launch fresh protests because the nine-point agreement reached with the government earlier had not been fully implemented. “The Bill still fails to address key concerns of teachers,” Parajuli said, expressing hope that political parties would support necessary amendments in both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.
The CNT has announced that it will stage a sit-in at the CPN (Maoist Centre) central office on Friday. Earlier, on Wednesday, it had organized a similar protest at the Nepali Congress central office in Sanepa.
