KATHMANDU: The closed session of the 23rd General Convention of the All Nepal National Students Union-Rrevolutionary (ANNFSU-R) scheduled for Wednesday has been postponed.
The presidium of the student union affiliated with the main opposition CPN (Maoist Center) announced the postponement of the closed session through a statement on Tuesday.
The closed session will now be held at 10 am on Thursday.
The general convention, which was inaugurated on September 26, is entangled in a dispute over the age limit of candidates. Student leaders eyeing leadership positions are against putting an age limit. While there was preparation to go for a vote on whether to set an age limit, leaders are against it as many aspiring for leadership would be ineligible to contest.
The Maoist Center has assigned its Deputy General Secretary Shakti Basnet to resolve the dispute. Basnet held talks with former chairperson Himal Sharma, Ramesh Malla, Narendra Neupane, and incumbent chair Pancha Singh on Tuesday evening to resolve the dispute.
GP Mainali, who is preparing to contest for the chairperson position, said the meeting failed to reach a consensus. Mainali stated they were open to accepting an age limit but insisted that the new leadership be elected through a vote.
