KATHMANDU: Civil servants will no longer be allowed to receive dual benefits from the state.
During a discussion on the report of the Federal Civil Service Bill submitted by a subcommittee in the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives, Committee Chairperson Ram Hari Khatiwada said necessary provisions will be introduced in the law to prevent civil servants from receiving dual benefits.
According to Khatiwada, civil servants taking other government positions after their retirement can receive only one benefit—either pension and allowances, or the salary of the position. “If anyone is found receiving dual benefits, the amount will be recovered as government dues,” he added.
Khatiwada also said that the committee is not in favor of continuing pensions to individuals involved in corruption, forgery or crimes against the state.
Speaking on the occasion, UML lawmaker Raghuji Pant said that no consensus has been reached in the subcommittee on continuing pensions for those involved in corruption.
Similarly, Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Dilendra Prasad said that the prohibition on dual benefits needs to be stipulated in the law as per the sub-committee’s recommendations.
Maoist Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey said necessary provisions should be introduced in the Bill to prevent individuals from receiving dual benefits from the state.
The meeting discussed the sub-committee’s report on a wide range of issues related to the formation, operation, and service conditions of the federal civil service.
