‘Citizen Inquiry Commission’ formed to probe Tinkune incident

KATHMANDU: A ‘Citizen Inquiry Commission’ has been formed to investigate violence at the pro-monarchy demonstration in Tinkune of Kathmandu on March 28.

The commission, led by Devendra Lal Nepali, includes former AIG of Nepal Police Rabiraj Thapa, Dr Ram Prasad Upreti, Dr Gyan Basnet and Hari Kattel.

The Joint People’s Movement Coordination Committee announced the formation of the commission, issuing a press statement. Committee’s Spokesperson Swagat Nepal said in the statement that the commission aims to probe the incidents of human rights abuses that occurred during the event.

Two individuals died in the incident, while demonstrators torched government offices, private business establishments, and offices of media and political parties.
