CIAA files corruption case against six

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against six individuals, including former Executive Director of the Security Printing Center (SPC) Bikal Paudel, at the Special Court for irregularities in the procurement of equipment for the SPC.

Along with Paudel, the anti-graft body has prosecuted former Director of the National Information Technology Center Safal Shrestha, Senior Divisional Engineer (Mechanical) of the Ministry of Forests and Environment Navin Kumar Pokharel, and SPC’s Accounts Officer Khadka Bahadur Thapa and Section Officer Hari Ballabh Ghimire.

According to CIAA Spokesperson Narahari Ghimire, Akbar Hussain, the CEO of Max International, the company awarded the tender to supply equipment for the SPC, has also been prosecuted.

The CIAA has sought to recover Rs 407.55 million from the six individuals, the amount it claims was the loss caused to the government, and has demanded prison sentences as per the Corruption Prevention Act, 2022.
