CIAA files case against 249 in Tikapur land scam

KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against 249 individuals, including 27 officials of the Tikapur Town Development Committee, on charges of usurping government land in Tikapur, Kailali.

They stand accused of registering land plots in the names of their friends and relatives in collusion with the chairman and office-bearers of the committee.

The CIAA has named the committee’s former chairpersons Netra Prasad Joshi, Lalita Tamrakar, and Dhiraj Regmi, along with 27 office-bearers and others who received the land, as defendants.

A total of 30 bighas of government land were distributed to leaders and cadres of different political parties in collusion with the committee’s office-bearers.

According to the charge sheet, although the committee was required to allocate land plots as per the Town Development Act of 1989 and Town Development Regulations of 2004, the office-bearers registered land plots in the names of their friends and relatives by falsifying documents.

The CIAA has requested the Special Court to order the recovery of land from 107 individuals who currently own land plots on the 30 bighas of land.
