KATHMANDU: Outgoing Chinese Ambassador Hou Yanqi paid a farewell call on Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand at the latter’s office on Thursday.
Issues of bilateral relations and exchange of support and cooperation between the two countries were discussed in the meeting.
Minister Khand said in the meeting that Nepal was committed to the non-aligned foreign policy and the five principles of peaceful coexistence. “The Nepali government and Nepali people are committed to the one-China policy. The government is serious about the security sensitivity of its neighbor,” he added.
He also expressed commitment that the government won’t allow any untoward activity against any nation on its soil.
Minister Khand said the visit of Chinese president Xi Xinping, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China Li Zhanshu and other high-level visits from China during Ambassador Yanqi’s term have further strengthened Nepal-China relations.
Stating that Nepal and China also share cultural relations, he thanked the Chinese government, through Ambassador Yanqi, for its support to Nepal’s infrastructure development, natural disasters and the COVID pandemic. Khand also extended his best wishes for Ambassador Yanqi’s new assignment.
In response, Ambassador Yanqi said China was ready to provide needful support and cooperation for Nepal’s development and progress. She also expressed commitment to informing Chinese people about Nepal’s geographic, social and cultural diversity and enocurage them to visit Nepal.
Praising the role of Minister Khand in strengthening Nepal-China relations, she thanked the home minister for taking China’s security sensitivity seriously.
She also wishes for the success of the upcoming federal and provincial polls.
