JANAKPURDHAM: Devotees are offering prayers to the sun god on the banks of water bodies on Thursday as part of Chhath celebration.
The festival began on Tuesday.
According to the epic Mahabharat, the five Pandavas along with Draupadi worshipped the sun god during their period of exile. They were staying at King Birat’s court during this time. It is believed that this marked the beginning of the Chhath celebration.
According to the Surya Purana, Atri Muni’s wife Anusuya was the first to observe the Chhath fast. As a result, she was blessed with unwavering marital fortune and her husband’s love. This event established the tradition of celebrating Chhath.
The festival’s vibrancy can be seen in Janakpurdham, the capital of Madhesh Province, where worship ceremonies have been ongoing at pond banks since early morning.
All physical development in the world depends on the sun. Without solar energy, trees, plants, vegetation, creatures, and animals cannot survive. Experts say sunlight has led to the discovery of remarkable treatments for various chronic and incurable diseases.
