Chaudhary-Raut talks must for Janamat, NUP merger: Shrestha

KATHMANDU: Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) Chairperson Ranjita Shrestha has said that the party unification process with the Janamat Party will move forward only after direct discussions between NUP Patron Resham Chaudhary and Janamat Chairperson CK Raut.

Talking to reporters on the Parliament premises in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Shrestha said direct dialogue between the two leaders has not taken place as both have been busy with their respective party activities. “The formal unification process will not proceed until these two leaders hold a discussion,” she said. “The unification process will move forward only after their talks.”

Shrestha also clarified that there is no dispute between the two parties regarding unification. “An agreement has already been reached to have Chaudhary as the patron, Raut as the chairperson and me as co-chairperson post-unification,” she added.

The two parties have already named the merged party as Nagarik Janamat Party.

The merger process has not moved ahead since police briefly detained NUP Patron Chaudhary on the day the two parties were preparing to formally announce their unification on April 30.
