KATHMANDU: Chairpersons of nine out of 10 thematic committees of the House of Representatives will be elected unopposed.
Only one candidacy has been registered for nine House committees, according to the Federal Parliament Secretariat. However, However, two lawmakers have filed candidacies for the post of chairperson of the Industry, Commerce, and Consumer Interest Committee. Abdul Khan of Janamat Party and Ganesh Parajuli of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have registered their candidacies for the post.
After the ruling coalition partners – Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and Janamat Party – and the main opposition, CPN-UML, shared the posts among themselves, RSP had stated that it would file candidacy in the election for House committee chairpersons.
Although Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) hadn’t said anything about contesting the election, Maoist Center had vacated one committee chair assigned to it for RPP. Sources say Maoist Center vacated the post to RPP after the party expressed commitment to support the ruling coalition in Koshi Province Assembly.
Two joint committees of both Houses – Public Hearing Committee and State Direction Principle, Rules, and Responsibility Committee.

- Finance Committee – Santosh Chalise (NC)
- International Relations and Tourism – Raj Kishor Yadav (JSP)
- Industry, Commerce, Labour, and Consumer Interest – Abdul Khan (Janamat), Ganesh Parajuli (RSP)
- Law, Justice, and Human Rights – Bimala Subedi (Maoist Center)
- Agriculture, Cooperative, and Natural Resources – Dr Arzu Rana Deuba (NC)
- Women and Social Affairs – Kiran Kumar Sah (CPN-UML)
- State Affairs and Good Governance- Ram Hari Khatiwada (NC)
- Infrastructure Development Committee – Deepak Bahadur Singh
- Education, Health, and IT – Bhanubhakta Joshi of CPN (Unified Socialist)
- Public Accounts Committee – Rishikesh Pokharel (CPN-UML)
