KATHMANDU: Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has formed a team to investigate the 100 kg gold smuggling case.
CIB formed the team after the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) formally handed over investigation files to the CIB for further investigation.
The CIB team is led by SP Sanjaya Singh Thapa.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) conducted a raid on a taxi that was transporting a cargo of scooter brake shoes from the TIA Customs on July 19. Preliminary investigation showed gold was molded into brake shoe parts. The taxi was intercepted on Ring Road just outside the TIA Customs. The cargo had already been released by the customs office after completing their investigation.
