KATHMANDU: Nepal made a winning start to the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Nations League, which began in Kathmandu on Thursday, with a straight-set victory over Sri Lanka.
Nepal won the first set 25-19. Although Sri Lanka took an initial lead in the second set, Nepal ultimately claimed it 25-18. Nepal was down 12-15 in the third set but scored seven consecutive points to win the set 25-19.
Nepal will meet India in its second match on Saturday.
In the second match of the day, India defeated Iran 3-1. Although the tournament favorites India took the first two sets with scores of 25-20 and 25-18, Iran fought back in the third set, winning 25-19. However, Iran couldn’t maintain the momentum in the fourth set and conceded a 25-11 defeat.
Iran will play against Sri Lanka in the first match on Friday, while the Maldives will take on India in the second match.
A total of five countries are participating in the tournament.
