CAN announces squad for Nepali women team’s Uganda tour

KATHMANDU: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced a 14-member squad under Indu Barma for the Women’s Day Cup 2025 T-20 cricket tournament to be held in Uganda from March 8 to 16.

Sana Praveen and Riya Sharma have earned their spots in the senior team for the first time. However, players like Seema KC, Sabnam Rai, Soba Rokaya and Manisha Upadhyay, who were in the closed camp training, could not secure a place in the final squad.

Along with Nepal, the tournament features hosts Uganda, Hong Kong and Namibia. As per the tournament’s format, each team will play against the others twice and the top two teams after the round-robin stage will play in the final on March 16.

In the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, Namibia is ranked 17th, Uganda is 18th, while Nepal and Hong Kong are positioned at 21st and 22nd, respectively.

Nepal will play against Namibia on March 8 and March 12, while it will lock horns against Uganda on March 9 and March 13, and against Hong Kong on March 10 and March 14.

Indu Barma (Captain), Bindu Rawal, Riya Sharma, Samjhana Khadka, Mamta Chaudhary, Pooja Mahato, Rajmati Aairee, Kabita Joshi, Rubina Chettri, Alisha Kumari Yadav (Wicketkeeper), Roma Thapa, Rachana Chaudhary, Sana Praveen and Iswari Bista.
