Cabinet okays amendment to Nepal Citizenship Regulations

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to approve the Nepal Citizenship Regulations (Fourth Amendment), 2025.

The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting held on Friday.

Unveiling the Cabinet’s decisions, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel said the meeting also approved the organizational structure and staffing positions of agencies under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The government has also decided to establish Area Administration Offices at nine locations across different districts—BP Nagar of Doti, Shreechanga of Taplejung, Dho of Dolpa, Khatyad of Mugu, Raskot of Kalikot, Kolti of Bajura, Gokuleshwar of Darchula, Meghauli of Baitadi, and Hidangadhi of Sankhuwasabha.

Similarly, the government has decided to allow Nepali workers in Iraq, who have obtained work visas, to apply for labor approval when they return to Nepal.

Kharel also said the cabinet decided to repeal the 2009 guidelines related to sending trainee workers to Japan under the Japan International Training Cooperation Organization (JITCO) agreement between the governments of Nepal and Japan.

Likewise, the government has appointed Joint Secretary Kamal Prasad Bhattarai as Acting Chief Secretary at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers of Madhesh Province.
