Bypoll in Chitwan-2 on April 23: EC

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to hold a by-election in the vacant Chitwan-2 seat of the House of Representatives on April 23.

The meeting of the EC held on Sunday took a decision to this end as per the House of Representatives Election Act, 2017, according to a statement issued by the EC.

The Chitwan-2 seat is lying vacant after the Supreme Court ruled Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane ineligible to hold public positions after invalidating his citizenship certificate.

Lamichhane was elected to the House of Representatives in the November 20 polls from Chitwan-2 defeating Umesh Shrestha of the Nepali Congress (NC).
