KATHMANDU: Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD is bringing a small, affordable hatchback named ‘Seagull’.
According to Chinese media reports, the compact EV will be the cheapest offering from BYD stable. The car will measure around 3.8 meters in length and will have a wheelbase of 2.5 meters.
The car will be powered by a 55 kW motor which is smaller than the 70 kW that its sibling BYD Dolphin uses. It will have a 44.9 kWh ferrous lithium phosphate battery which delivers a range of more than 400 km.
The car’s photo was leaked by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, according to media reports in China. Chinese laws require automakers to submit documents regarding new product information to the government before launching their product.
Seagull is expected to be priced below 80,000 yuan (around $12,000).
