By-election in Rupandehi-3 on Nov 3

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) has decided to hold a by-election in the Rupandehi-3 seat of the House of Representatives on November 3.

A meeting of the EC held on Monday took the decision.

The seat became vacant with the demise of Deepak Bohora of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), who passed away on April 1, 2025.

As per section 84 (7) of the Constitution of Nepal, 2025, if the seat of any member of the House of Representatives falls vacant while more than six months of its term remains, it shall be filled in the same manner as the electoral system in which such seat was filled.

“The EC fixed the date for the by-elections in Rupandehi-3 based on this very provision in the constitution,” Neeta Pokharel, the Spokesperson for the EC, said.

Bohora was elected to the House of Representatives in the 2022 general election by securing 36,717 votes. His nearest contender, Bal Krishna Khand of the Nepali Congress, got 34,036 votes.
