Bus accident near Sankhu claims four lives

KATHMANDU: Four people, three women and one man, were killed and 27 others injured when a bus bringing back picnickers from Jaharsinghpauwa met with an accident near Sankhu in Kathmandu on Wednesday evening.

According to police, the accident occurred at Jaharsinghpauwa-Sankhu Road in Ward No 3 of Shankharapur Municipality at around 5 pm on Wednesday. The bus, which was heading toward Sankhu from Jaharsinghpauwa, plunged about 30–40 meters off the road,” SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, the spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, said.

The bus was carrying around 35 to 40 passengers.

The injured are receiving treatment at Nepal Orthopedic Hospital, Shankharapur Hospital, Nepal Medical College Teaching Hospital, Stupa Hospital, Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Mulpani Municipal Hospital, Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital, and People’s Life Care Hospital.

Among the injured, the condition of one woman undergoing treatment at Shankarapur Hospital is reported to be critical.
