Buffalo refuses to be preyed on, kills tiger

KATHMANDU: A Royal Bengal tiger met its match when it was killed by a water buffalo it tried to attack in Makwanpur on Thursday morning.

The tiger, which appeared old and lean, had strayed from Chitwan National Park and targeted a buffalo tied in Bal Bahadur Rai’s animal shed in Pratapur, Manahari Rural Municipality-6. But it got killed when the buffalo resisted. The buffalo is injured.

“Due to its inability to hunt, the tiger may have left the national park in search of easier prey,” Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, the information officer at Chitwan National Park Office, told journalists.

The tiger’s body has been transported to the national park office for necessary tests and investigation.

This is the first known instance of a domesticated animal killing a predator in the country.
