Budget Speech for Fiscal Year 2024/25 [LIVE]

KATHMANDU: Minister for Finance Barsha Man Pun is presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2024/25 in the joint session of the House of Representatives and National Assembly on Tuesday.

There were rumors that the government would bring budget through an ordinance as the main opposition, the Nepali Congress, had been obstructing parliamentary proceedings for the past many months demanding the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee to investigate allegations of misuse of cooperative deposits by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Laichhane.

However, the ruling and the opposition parties forged an understanding on contentious issues this morning, paving way for presentation of budget in the joint session of parliament.

The government must bring budget for the next fiscal year, which begins on mid-July, on May 28 as per the constitution.
